The 16th meeting of the Regional Consultative Committee on Disaster Management (RCC) will be held online from 30 September – 1 October 2021 with the overarching theme of ‘Financing Resilient Development in Asia and the Pacific‘.

This year’s meeting will be co-hosted by the Republic of Korea through the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) and the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC).

The RCC mechanism seeks to promote consultation and cooperation on reducing disaster risks. Established in 2000 with ADPC as its Secretariat, it comprises of National Disaster Management Organizations (NDMOs) from over 20 member countries across Asia and the Pacific region. The RCC mechanism has promoted peer advocacy and exchange of expertise in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) for the last 20 years.

Resilient development in the context of the RCC has been focused on the operationalization of the global frameworks, which are aligned with the priority areas of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR). The RCC has called for enabling coherence through the provision of technical support to member countries in the implementation of relevant policies, plans, and strategies at the national, sub-national and local levels while ensuring gender-equal, pro-poor, rights-based, and inclusive approaches.

ADPC is committed to bringing member countries in the region together to achieve the common goal of resilience against disasters and climate change, whilst exploring ways to transform policies into practice and promote regional cooperation.

The 16th RCC meeting will build on the 15th RCC meeting held in Bangkok, Thailand, in 2020 which focused on the theme of ‘Enhancing Regional Cooperation and Coherence for Resilient and Inclusive Societies’. The Bangkok Statement derived from the meeting is available here.
